SingStrong Mission Statement and Background
Begun in 2009, SingStrong is a world class a cappella music festival based in Reston, VA with a second, sister festival in Skokie, IL and a third in NY! Our mission is to foster and promote the art form of a cappella music while supporting the community.
Our five concerts and two days of classes and coachings feature the leading experts in the field of a cappella music. Each year SingStrong showcases somewhere around 30 groups. Over the years, these groups' stylistic diversity has encompassed the genres of barbershop, classical, jazz, contemporary, beatbox, Tuvan throat singing, doo-wop, pop, rock, spoken word and beyond.
We encourage achievement through competition at the collegiate, high school and professional levels. Our classes and concerts showcase collaboration and cooperation in the pursuit of artistic creativity and innovative vocal techniques. Our presenters and headline groups have collectively won every major a cappella award, from the Grammy's to the National Harmony Sweepstakes, from the Sweet Adelines International Competition to NBC's "Sing-Off". They have come from Europe, Australia, Asia, Canada and across the United States. In 2010, SingStrong was nominated by the Contemporary A cappella Society as the Best Live A cappella Event in the world.
Here at SingStrongDC, we are also proud of our charitable involvement. The PCA or Parents of the Choral Arts is a booster charity that supports local vocal music right here at our host school, South Lakes HS, in Reston, VA. Profits from tickets directly support this wonderful cause. Profits at the silent auction support the fight against Alzheimer's Disease. And of course, SingStrong, Inc. is itself is a New York based charity with a team that donates thousands of volunteer hours to keep SingStrong A cappella Festival first rate.
